Crime Watch Update: Don't Open
Your Doors To Strangers
February 1, 2009. Neighbors
have reported men going door-to-door in the Village after dark allegedly selling
a product. One neighbor, upon hearing the door bell ring, opened her door
to two men. Carmel Police were advised;
however, the next night, another instance
occurred involving an African-American male
going door-to-door. Again, a neighbor
called 911 and Carmel Dispatch sent an officer
to investigate. A man was stopped
and questioned by Carmel Police. It
was determined that he worked for AT &T
and was checking on phone lines in the Village.
Carmel Police verified this with AT
& T. The next night, the
AT & T employee was stopped again by
Carmel Police who were dispatched due to
calls by our neighbors.
The
Carmel Solicitor's Ordinance calls for specific
hours in which an individual may go door-to-door
soliciting. Solicitors must be licensed
by the City and must display this license
on their person in a place that can be readily
seen. If you are unsure, do not open
your door, pick up your phone and call 911.
At
all times, err on the side of caution. Do
not open your door unless you are absolutely
certain you know who it is you are opening
your door to. If you are unsure who
is at your door, IMMEDIATELY dial 911. It
is better to have a police officer ask questions
than you. To share any instances of
illegal or questionable activity in Brookshire
Village, please email webmaster@brookshirevillage.org.
Remember,
it's OK to call 911.
